Reading Link Challenge

Reading Link Challenge (RLC) is an award-winning Public Library / school partnership program that promotes the "sport of reading."  Librarians from Surrey Public Libraries work with school teacher librarians to recruit teams of six students in grades 4 and 5.

The program is run as a series of quiz / trivia challenges with questions based on six preselected books.  All teams participate in one or more levels of challenge, with the winning teams advancing to higher levels of competition within the community.
Participants learn about teamwork and how to read for retention.  RLC also promotes public library usage and encourages children to develop a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure.

If you are interested in joining the program this year:

-you will commit to your group for the duration of the program
-you are responsible for sharing books amongst your group members.
-you will take part in practice challenges which will be held at lunch once per week

Levels of challenge are as follows:
1. School Challenge - teams challenge in their school usually before spring break
2. Library Challenge - school winning teams challenge other local schools at a public venue around spring break (during school hours)
3. Community Challenge – winning teams from each Surrey Library branch challenge each other
4. Grand Challenge – winning teams from Fraser Valley, Coquitlam, North Vancouver City, Port Moody and Surrey Library systems challenge each other to determine an overall winning team.

This year our "Flaming Taco Bookinators" took it to a whole new level with their team spirit and hard work.  They came up with the greatest team cheer it took others by surprise!! They made it to the third level of challenge and we were so proud of their dedication to each other and the club!  Way to go guys!
