Web tools I use

Kahoot comes to mind for me right away as a mode of communication to assess comprehension that students love so much.  They enjoy the competition and the excitement it creates.  I adapted one that was was previously made and changed it to match what we were learning about nonfiction text features and their purposes.  Previously I did one as a fun way for my new students to get to know me better.  I am now working on one that students will complete as a way to help their groups to prepare for the Reading Link Challenge.
I am a big fan of Book Creator both for modifying photos before using them in a larger digital project, and for creating multimodal projects.  It has many features including various layout options, camera, audio recording, text, drawing, colouring and read to me .
I am becoming familiar with Explain Everything and although it is easier for upper intermediate grades to use because its a bit finicky, I like the function that will record text, audio and drawing while it's being added which makes the project really comes to life.
Your idea about the meme is an interesting one to consider.  I would think that Pic Collage would work well to create these pictoral slogans.  Perhaps you could begin to spread them on a LC blog, twitter or website.  Maybe creating a new meme for each function or issue that arises in your school.  That is if I understand them correctly? From the readings I found Trimble-Roles' and Barton's outline of the steps taken to engage students with a multimodal project helpful because it relates to what I am trying with a grade four class at the moment.  I'm using Scratch Junior as a platform for stories to be created about the book nominees this year.  Really, they are just going to it and teaching me how along the way.  I have a concern that I'm really just starting to think of lately and it has to do with issues of copyright.  There are a multitude of images that are out there that students want to use in the process of creating their own ideas.  How should these sources be cited?  I guess this could also affect how memes are created.  Thoughts?
