First thing that is at the top of my priorities is to learn about the school culture and create relationships with the students and staff. I plan on doing this by engaging with people, offering support and varied activities for my student to find out what their interests are.
I hope to get rid of some/all of the tables to open the space up for them to move around and interact with areas they may not have in the past. I plan on having fun with them and helping them to learn about the changes made in their Library in exciting ways such as scavenger hunts and online interactive quizzes.
I have already handed out my TL Evaluation and Teacher Needs Form to them because I want them to be thinking ahead about how I can support them. It will also give me a heads up about what and when they are teaching particular topics so that I can show them how ready and valuable I can be. Also it will give me an understanding about which resources digital or print that they like or know how to use.
In a newly renovated Library, it looks amazing. However there are so many more jobs left to complete it. Heavy weeding in the nonfiction section will be necessary to make the collection more approachable, relevant and useful, as well as shelf labelling as there are none on the new rolling shelves. This is a big job!
Other things I have heard that teachers want are for the Reading Power books to be designated in some way. Also I will have to decide how I want to circulate and share the new Science and Socials resources so they don't get lost in the collection and not used. Partly why I want to know what and when they are teaching. I will also invite them all into the space very soon to preview them ahead of time for their own planning needs.
My biggest challenge will be learning how to use and create learning activities for the coding toys, 3D Printer and interactive projector that we have. Really it's a dream library and I'm pumped!
