Brochure

I agreed with the amount of information in the brochure.  I am lucky because our Admin is trained as a tl and is great at advocating for our school in grant proposals and in dealing with district policies.  I know she understands the nature of the role and how fractured it can feel at times with the directions we are sent in.  She is a straight shooter and says it like it is, so I won't be surprised if frank discussions arise, however I know I will be well supported by her. We will be talking about budget on Monday and thankfully the LC has just come through a renovation and is a beautifully welcoming space.  I do think however that the non-fiction section needs some help! In Surrey we have bundled digital resources paid for by the district so that helps with budgets.  Mission, partners, collaboration, curriculum and information skills is a snapshot of our responsibilities in the TL role and I agree with them all.  In a quick self-evaluation I would say that I need to improve my understanding of the new curriculum in order to be more effective in my role.
Just commenting on your saying "yes" to students.  Saying yes is really part of the fun of the job I think.  Being the "yes person" has many benefits when it comes to student-teacher relationship building.  I remember from some parenting advice and I try to apply it to teaching. "Try to say yes all the time or at least more than no." Frame it in a way that you can say yes... "Yes you can play your game as soon as we've finished what we are doing here" or "Yes, you can have desert as soon as you've finshed all your dinner" or "yes we can have a maker club as soon as we all work together to provide some materials and work together to keep it clean and organized" or "yes you can have this book on hold and I will deliver it to you as soon as it is returned".  Students love to see you in their classrooms with a book especially for them!
